If your company has hired any kind of marketing agency for any kind of marketing (traditional, social, digital,etc.), what are the day-to-day and/or big complaints you have with the agency?

To answer your question, one of my complaints is that agencies tend to spend a lot on test campaigns that garner very little return. For some reason it always seemed to cost big money. Until I learned their business and we worked together. Below is a recommendation, hope it helps.
 
There are some fine agencies out there, I can't help but say anything that is not managed well becomes a runaway train. Yes you can say that agencies have a "opposite end of the spectrum" model, after all, you are looking for high ROI and a the lowest cost of engaging customers. They are in the business of making money but also to perform. The secret here is to manage the agency, teach them YOUR business and learn THEIRS so they can become partners. All too often an agency is given carte blanche because "they know the advertising world". You have to manage the agency, push them to do better, challenge them! You only have yourself to blame when you leave a lower level manager or intern to hand off reports each month. You must learn the agency business while simultaneously teaching them yours. Then you develop synergy and your engagements, conversions and market share rise because you're working as a team. Agencies have a much wider view of the online landscape, what works, what doesn't in multiple industries.  Traditionally corporations or retailers have a narrow focus on their business (not that this is bad). Agencies bring new light and ideas that a savvy digital manager or exec can transfer into their marketing structure. But you must manage and learn from them. You both need to be part of the company or retailers fabric.
